Jordan, grade 10, got these on a school trip to Italy.  She was looking for high tops and found them there.  She doesn’t care about the name brand and doesn’t know what these are.

Ugliest Kicks Ever, FW Johnson, Regina SK
Alie, grade 11. Works at an insurance company, front desk.  Wears these to work.  Someone at work commented on her kicks: “Those have to be the ugliest shoes I’ve ever seen.” Why would she say that? “Cuz she’s old.” (Alie laughs) “And out of date.”

NON-GIRLY-GIRL KICKS, BEDFORD, SASKATOON SK
Lorissa wears these Vans because she noticed no one wears them. They’re kind of unique. Plus she’s not a girly-girl so she’d never wear ballet flats or heels or anything like that. Actually she’s pretty competitive and is totally into wrestling and UFC and stuff like that…her fave is the champ, Brock Lesnar.                            There’s only one...

Blue Suede Kicks, McKitrick, Saskatoon SK
Name: Amber Grade: 7 Why these shoes: “They stood out I guess”.  Um, YEAH they stand out.  And I LOVE them.  Oh, and Amber did you know about this?  Custom Etnies?? I bet you did Amber.  I bet you know all about this.  I honestly wonder how different my life would have been if I had access (and money) for something like this back when I was obsessing about my kilt at Sacred...

Normally I look at the kicks of students.  But I couldn’t ignore these.  The teacher at Cut Knife said when she was in B.C. these spoke to her. I hear that.

House of Dereon kicks on Achol, Bishop Kidd Jr.,...
Achol is a Dinka girl originally from Khartoum, Sudan.  Dinka people are an ethnic group in South Sudan, where civil war raged for over 20 years.  It’s also a place where many girls are made to marry early and forgo school - the exact reason why we were at Achol’s school.  I learned there are a lot of Sudanese kids living in South Calgary.

L.A. LOVE, Bodwell High, North Vancouver, BC
Muhammad is a serious Laker fan. Not shy either. He cheered hard during our show.  Muhammad’s from Saudi Arabia.  He was one of many international students who appreciated Masia’s set, and probably the most excited. Oh, and honestly?  Best afro ever.

MY ADIDAS, Yaletown, Vancouver BC
I’ll start with mine. Saw them cruising through boutiques in Yaletown. Was shopped out and shy to bring out the wallet. Then saw these! Got friendly with the sales guy and played rock-paper-scissors for them. Best two outta three. He won, I bought them. I’ve worn out my Onitsuka high tops and these are an excellent replacement (I know - not the same brand but I’m not...
